Your Words
by Caitlyn Haley
Your words fall easily
Like petals descending
Gracefully landing
One after the other
On the forest floor
I lift them
Cradle them
In my hands
Chasing every color
Every syllable
You never turn
To see if I follow
Looking only
To the trees
As day fades
I lose you
To the dark
Feeling for petals
Beautiful words
Turn to whispers
The cold is sharp
Piercing the warmth
Clutched in my hands
A biting gust
Carries them away
I find my heart
And hold it instead
I see your words
Etched inside it
Where you wrote them
You come back
Having seen my heart
And take it
Leaving me lifeless
As you walk on
