Snowmen in April
by Jeremy Eisenman
The snowmen sweat on streets below
as spring arrives and flowers grow.
beneath they cry and mourn their loss
of fallen brethren spring has caught
“Crawl in the freezer, bring us too
our frigid grasp will tether you
to restless winds of January
snowflakes burn yet light and airy
and dusk begins in afternoon
we’ll glisten there beneath the moon
Stagnation is our only friend
so hold us please past summer’s end
when fall arrives lay with us here
remind us soon that winter nears
when winter comes please bring us down
to new snowmen that sing sweet sounds
When April rolls around again
we’ll call on you our closest friend
crawl in the freezer, bring us too
our frigid grasp will tether you.”
