Viewing Hours, 1pm - 3pm

by River Ashe Maynard

This story is infinite

galaxies, nebulas, black holes

surrounded by heated dust

spinning so fast that it glows,

the only indicator it’s there at all.

This story is infinite

vaster than the depths of the oceans,

the space between atoms,

the eons between stars between planets

between home between the end,

the end of everything,

the end of all and nothing at the same time.

This story is infinite

but nothing is infinite--

everything must end, one day soon

yet also never.

The passing swells of time, the rolling

calls of the lightyears between

light sources

and the finality, the fragile smallness

of a human being

lost in the finite infinity

of everything.
